6 Questions to Ask before buying a Mobility Scooter.
Are you considering buying a mobility scooter to give you more independence and freedom?
Buying a mobility scooter is a big decision and there are a number of different models and extras you need to look at and research. By asking the following questions you can determine what you want from your scooter.
1. Will you use your mobility scooter inside or outside?
With a scooter which is going to be used outside you need to look at solid scooters as there may be uneven ground to cross and you need to be comfortable. 4 wheel scooters are popular for outside use as they are generally more stable and faster than perhaps a 3 wheel scooter.
If you use the mobility scooter for inside then looking at the compact mobility scooters may be the one for you as you need to decide on maneuverability and space.
2. Do you have a lot of steep hills to travel up and down?
If you do then a 4 wheel scooter may again be the right choice as you may need the extra power it could provide.
3. Will there be any traveling on the roads?
Look into local laws if you are going to travel on the roads, also in most cases your scooter will need to be able to travel as least 8MPH and be equipped with headlights and taillights.
4. Look at anything in your home that could be a restriction.
You need to look at your doorways, are they wide enough and do you have a front gate. Are there any tight turns and is there room to manoeuvre in the rooms you may use.
5. Your mobility scooter needs to comfortable.
Your mobility scooter needs to comfortable not only for your short journeys but especially if you are going to travel a distance. Also look at support that can be provided and the leg room. Some scooter seats swivel enabling you to seat and get up from the chair with ease.
6. Do you think you may need to transport the scooter?
If you think you might need to put your scooter in your vehicle you might want to look at the scooters that fold down or scooters that can be assembled without tools for convenience.
